YR 6 Game Designers

This week, Year 6 stepped into the shoes of real game designers!

Their challenge was to build a collecting-style game using the iPads. To get started, the children programmed their sprites to move using the iPad’s tilt sensors. This meant that instead of pressing buttons, players could control movement simply by tilting the device in different directions - a feature that caused a lot of excitement (and plenty of fun testing!).

Next, the children added a collision block and linked it to a score variable. This clever piece of coding meant that every time the sprite touched a collectible object, the score changed automatically.

Throughout the lesson, our budding programmers learned how important it is to test and debug their code. If something didn’t work first time, they investigated, fixed the problem, and tried again - just like real developers do.

By the end of the session, Year 6 had created a whole range of imaginative, playable games and developed their coding confidence along the way.

A brilliant effort, Year 6 — game on! 🎮✨
