🌍 Year 4 Computing – Search Ranking 🔎

This week in Computing, Year 4 became search engines!

We explored how search engines decide which websites appear first when we type in a search. The children learnt about web crawlers, indexing and algorithms (a set of rules computers follow).

Using the search term “rainforest”, pupils ranked three different websites and discussed why some appeared higher than others. They discovered that:

• Search results are put in order using rules.
• Websites can repeat keywords to move higher up the list.
• The first result is not always the most reliable or helpful.
