YR 3 Computing

This week, Year 3 began their exciting LEGO Education Robotics journey by exploring the SPIKE Essential kits for the first time.
Children investigated the different hardware components, including the Hub, Motor, Light, Colour Sensor and Gyro Sensor, learning what each part does and how they work together. They practised connecting cables correctly and discovered how the hub acts as the robot's "brain".
Using simple block-based programming, pupils created their first programs and made the hardware respond in different ways. They used motors to create movement, changed lights and colours, explored how the colour sensor detects information, and investigated how the gyro sensor can detect tilt and movement.
Throughout the lesson, children developed important computing skills by sequencing instructions, testing their programs and debugging mistakes when things did not work as expected. They showed fantastic teamwork, problem-solving and resilience while exploring the kits.
It was a fun, hands-on introduction to physical computing and a brilliant start to our Year 3 Robotics unit.
