Aims of Mathematics at St Stephen's

At St Stephen’s we believe that mathematics provides children with a powerful set of tools including logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways. These tools enable children to view and make sense of the world, communicate their ideas and tackle a range of practical tasks and real-life problems.  Mathematics is not only taught because it is useful; we believe that it should be a source of delight and wonder, offering pupils intellectual excitement.  We aim to develop children’s mathematical skills and enthusiasm for the subject by providing a challenging and stimulating mathematics curriculum.
